Billy had been dead for six months. At least, that is what everyone thought. Thing is, after the kids had been taken out of Starcourt Mall, supposedly Billy's body just...vanished. No explanation. They'd had a memorial for him properly but still, something wasn't quite right. Even so, it was written off as yet another mystery and left alone.
What no on realized was that not all of the Russians had been captured. A good few of them made it out and along the way they'd grabbed Billy's body. They wanted to examine it more closely, determined to figure out what the deal was with the black blood that had poured from his wounds and his mouth. They had taken him to yet another secret base of operations in the middle of nowhere, ran plenty of experiments. In the end, they'd dubbed it 'Project Lazarus' because after yet another round of experiments, they'd actually ended up bringing Billy back to life.
At first, he'd been nothing but a husk. No memories of who he was or where he'd come from. The Russians were pleased with that, working on seeing what he could do. They discovered he had all these special abilities now. The same abilities as Eleven. Months passed and he started remembering, learning that the scientists didn't like that so he kept the memories to himself.
Until finally, he remembered his name. Billy Hargrove.
It was easy breaking out when everyone there was terrified of his abilities. He'd practically brought the whole place down around him. Once outside, he started walking. Hours later, he'd found a town, figured out where he was and where he needed to go. He'd broken into a house and stolen some clothes.
Now, it was the middle of December and here he was, walking in a hoodie and a pair of sweatpants with sandals as the only shoes he'd found. The night after Christmas he found himself standing outside Steve Harrington's house, staring into the other teen's window. He was dirty, freezing, starving. He'd been walking for almost two weeks. He had no clue how long he'd been gone or what had happened since. He just needed to get someone's attention.
So he knocked on the window, still staring at Steve.

Billy looked confused for a moment, blinking before pushing his fingers through his hair slowly. "What about my eyes?" He caught a glimpse of himself in the window, but by then the black was already gone.
"Did something happen?"
no subject
"You have powers. Like El. Don't you?"
no subject
His brows furrow and he took a step back, looking down. He hadn't known that. They never told him what he looked like.
At the question though, he nodded, biting his lip. "The Russians...they. I don't know. When they brought me back to life they used...energy or something from the Upside Down. And I still had part of the Mind Flayer. It did a lot to me."
no subject
"I'm sorry, Billy. When they couldn't find your body... we just assumed..." We assumed it had ended up like the others had; part of the Flayer.

He blinked, lifting his eyes to look at Steve before tilting his head slowly. "Wasn't your fault...or anyone elses. Not like you guys knew to look for me." He said softly, shrugging before taking a step closer himself.
"I'm here now though, right? I'm not dead. Just..." He stopped, frowning and rubbing the back of his neck. "Different."

It's only when he goes to step closer that he remembers Billy's nakedness, forgotten in the face of his powers, and Steve clears his throat and makes a pointed effort to look at the other boy's face.
"Clothes! We should find you clothes."
no subject
He hesitated, looking down at himself before humming and nodding. "Yeah...I..." He nodded again, looking around before grabbing a hand towel to cover himself. Steve was uncomfortable with him being naked so he wouldn't be naked.
At least, not completely.
He moved to the counter though, grabbing one of the sandwiches and taking a huge bite. God it tasted like Heaven, really.

"C'mon. We'll find something." As soon as he reaches his room, he rummages through the drawers until he finds something suitable and he throws them over his shoulder at Billy. "Here. Try these."
no subject
He caught the pants, but the shirt started to fly past him and he once again stopped it in mid air. This time it held there, suspended as he pulled on the pants and messed with the strings in the front.
If Steve turned around, he would see his shirt floating next to Billy and Billy purposely keeping his eyes averted. He didn't want Steve to see them. Not after what he'd said he'd seen.

"You don't have to hide them from me. They're a part of you who are."
no subject
He froze, eyes going wide as he stared at Steve. The black veins still there, still totally visible as they bled towards his pupil.
"I look like a monster." He murmured, though he didn't look away.

He flinched at the touch before slowly turning his head and really just looking at him. He swallowed, looking to see if he could tell if the man was lying. He didn't seem to be.
After a few moments he closed the distance between them, curling his arms around Steve's shoulders and hugging him tightly. "Thank you." He whispered, closing his eyes tightly.
no subject
"Any time, Billy."
no subject
He sighed softly, closing his eyes before pulling back and smiling warmly at him. Its still hesitant, but he feels...better somehow. Knowing that he is accepted by the other teen.
"Don't say anytime. You might never get rid of me."
